Solitude – Solace – Serenity
When love, unity, purity and peace combine, they create an eternal vibration audible to the ears of a discerning person in deep meditation. This humming sound of cosmic energy is known by the sacred symbol of OM or AUM(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Om).

Om (also spelled Aum) is believed to be the origin of all sound. It is also the most well-known mantra in the West. The Om syllable forms when the Sanskrit alphabets of ‘A’, ‘U’ and ‘M’ come together. It is believed to be the original sound through which the universe was created, and when the sound or OM is sustained and when intoned brings about vibrations in the skull and the bones of the face as it awakens the light of realization.

In this sound and the Sanskrit symbol which depicts it, lie the key to the Hebrew word Amen, the Egyptian name Amun, the Tibetan word Hum and the English words such as Omnipotent, Am and Whom. Hidden in holy language and the visual art of its unique calligraphy, the divine OM will access the essence of life through sacred vibrations.

Before we delve farther into this mesmerizing reality of the sacred vibrations, we have to come down to elementary levels of day to day happenings for better grasp of the topic of discussion.

Have we observed that when attending a talk, discourse, lecture; depending on the speaker, we either listen with rapt attention and there is pin-drop silence. We want the speaker to go on and on and not stop. Conversely, we are ready to throw rotten eggs at some of them. Why does this happen? Let us pause and think and understand the reason for such reaction in the audience.

It is established that degrees, background, achievements, looks, appearance, status have very little bearing when a lecturer/speaker opens his/her mouth to speak; it is always the content.
Now let us examine the content. The content is the arranging of words in a sequence to form a meaningful sentence. The sentence is the key, and therefore, the choice and sequencing of he words forming the sentence is of utmost importance. There is another unique side to this, which renders the language used as redundant.
Imagine yourself in a foreign country, where the language spoken is ‘Greek’ to you. A local teaches you some of the vilest and choicest curses. You memorize these to heart with the appropriate pronunciation and intonations. Next, you step out and stop a stranger and rattle out; what do you think would be the outcome? Most likely you will find yourself in the hospital with loose teeth and broken limbs.
What happened here? The choice of words and their sequencing was taught to you and you have used it in a place where it will have effect. Therefore, the place and understanding of the language by the listener is of equal importance. So what does all this led up to?
Shall we summarize:-
Most of us have read the story of Alibaba and the forty thieves (1,001 nights), where unless you uttered the words ‘Open Sesame”, the cave doors to the treasure won’t open!
Cambridge English Dictionary defines the phrase, ” Open Sesame” as ” something that allows a person or thing to do or enter something successfully and easily”. Therefore, ‘Open Sesame’, coined about 200 years ago may make today’s generation equate the same with our most commonly used term, ‘Password’! Well, is there a divine password?
Computer language is used to give instructions to a computer. There is a general purpose language and specific/specialized purpose languages. Is there any such language created by the Creator for us? If you think yes, that such language may exist, then to extend it to accept that there could be a general or specific language as well. Probably a logical thought!
Now let us move on to another common and interesting area. Though more interesting for the kids, but no less for the grown-ups. i.e. Magic. Many words, considered gibberish, are associated with magic, e.g. ‘abracadabra’, ‘hocus-pocus’, ‘alacazam’, ‘Ajji Majji la Tarajji’ and many others.
Abracadabra is an incantation used as a magic word in stage magic tricks, and historically was believed to have healing powers. Similarly, ‘spell’ is a series of words that has magical powers. If you’re under a spell, then what you do is out of your control – your thoughts and actions are dictated by the spell. Spell can refer to the magic word you say, or it can describe being under the influence of those words.
Therefore, magic creates a conflict between the things you think can happen and the things that you experience!
Dear readers, it is clear to all of us that words do have power and appropriate use of the same does have immeasurable impact. What have we trusted as powerful sentences in our own lives? From childhood we have been introduced to some form of Mantra(sacred text), chants, psalms or a certain prayer. When we intone these, sometimes rhythmically, repetitiously we are supposed to get transported to a peaceful, meditative state, which is an antidote to hustle and bustle of our chaotic lives. Many people like it, because it gives a glimpse into something beyond.
Oxford living dictionary defines MANTRA as a word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation. The mantras align your vibrations to create awareness. The vibration of mantras have the power to rearrange your molecular structure.
In layman’s terms, Mantras are sentences phrased by sages/seers/avatars and have the force that words can bring when appropriately used. Chanting of Mantras have melody, harmony and rhythm. Gamma brain waves are a frequency pattern of normal brain activity that measures between 25 and 100 Hz, with around 40 Hz being typical in humans. The gamma brain waves are known as “feeling of blessings”.

EEG recordings have proven that practitioners of meditation and chanting have a significant rise in gamma wave activity in the 80Hz – 120Hz range!!!
MANTRAS CARRY ENERGY! Mantras are Frequencies that can Heal, Kill and Transcend! Everything around us is pulsating and vibrating—nothing is really standing still. Physically, the act of chanting can also relax the body, slow down the nervous system, and calm the mind.
The Om symbol is the manifest (sagun: SAGUNA is the manifestation of God in form. ) form of the un manifest (nirgun: NIRGUNA is the eternal all-pervading and omnipresent divine consciousness.) God Principle, meaning it represents the Supreme God Principle. It can manifest in various ways depending on the cosmic principle. For example when it manifests as a subtle sound that people can hear it is because the Absolute Cosmic Ether (Ākāshtattva: Space/Ether as the most important element) principle is behind it. When it manifests as something we can see such as engraved on the floor it is because of the Absolute Cosmic Fire principle (Tējtattva: Fire element).
‘Om’, ‘Ohm’ or ‘Aum’ is a sacred sound that is known generally as the sound of the universe. Om is all encompassing, the essence of ultimate reality, and unifies everything in the universe. The vibrations that the Om sound creates are thought to energize the chakras throughout the body. The sound Om, when chanted, vibrates at the frequency of 432 Hz, which is the same vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature. As such, AUM is the basic sound of the universe, so by chanting it, we are symbolically and physically acknowledging our connection to nature and all other living beings.

OM is the first and foremost of all mantras.OM is the sound of cosmic energy and contains all the sounds in itself. The spiritual efficacy of OM is heard, not by the ears but by the heart. It surcharges the innermost being of man with vibrations of the highest reality. All galaxies (including ours) are rotating and they sound they make is OM.

Dear readers, it is time to move on to our next topic: THE CONNECTION. Before we start the next leg of our journey, let us recapitulate our understanding of the present topic being discussed. We have understood that WORD is important. WORD has connotations of sound and vibrations. It has links to our world and beyond and does have an effect on our well being. Developing our understanding would not only help us in finding balance, both physically and mentally, but also elevate our psyche to absorb matters which makes our thought processes to rise above the mundane and embrace the rhythm of eternity. Any persevering devotee, by constant practice, can experience the blessings of the manifested vibratory presence of God.
Looking forward to your inputs.
LET US MEET AT OUR NEXT POST: THE CONNECTION; UNTIL THEN PEACE!
